Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and School Community,
It is with great pride and excitement to have the opportunity to serve the students, parents, staff, and community in my role as Principal of Smithfield Middle School. Prior to being named Principal on March 1, 2016, I had enjoyed working with the students, staff, parents, and community of Smithfield Middle School in my role as Assistant Principal for the previous six years.  I have been dedicated to a career in education for twenty-four years. Prior to serving as Assistant Principal at Smithfield Middle School, my experiences include teaching Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies to middle school students in Johnston and Wayne Counties for eighteen years. As a former graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School and attendee of Johnston County Schools, the community and success of its students is something that is important to me.

I will work closely with the Assistant Principals, Mr. Darrick McNeill and Ms. Sharon Bryant, to ensure that Smithfield Middle School continues its quest for excellence. The administrative team will continue to focus on creating a safe and orderly environment for students and staff where students are provided differentiated instruction to meet their academic needs.

Open communication is very important to ensure a successful partnership between the school and home. Please know that I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have regarding your child. Please feel free to call me at 919-934-4696 or e-mail me at  Also, follow us on Twitter @SmMSKnights for additional announcements.

I look forward to working with you and your child to continue our quest for excellence.  I am proud to be a Knight! Please join us in making the 2016-2017 school year our best year yet!
